Natural Woman

Hi all! :)

This time around the post is gonna be about movies again. But a lil' bit more detail than usual. Without further ado, here's the film I'm gonna be talking about:

Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

Directed by: Rupert Wyatt
Starring: James Franco, Adam Serkis, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow

James Franco & Freida Pinto leading the cast in this film.

Well... as we all know.. Planet of the Apes had been made into a film since the 60s and again in 2001. Now, in 2011, they released another one but instead of a remake or a prequel, it's considered as a film on its own. The whole concept is about how we, humans have been testing on animals, in this case, apes, to learn more about human degenerative diseases, to be specific, Alzheimer's Disease. Well, by doing so, undoubtedly, there will be the testing of using new chemicals on these animals which is where the movie started. James Franco played a young and ambitious scientist, Will Rodman who have been trying to look for some sort of a "cure" for AZ and through some setback, his project was closed to being shutdown by the company. Then, Caesar, an infant ape was brought into his life. Will noticed that the effects of his drugs worked on Caesar's mother and somehow had been transferred genetically to Caesar, and so he decided to raise him up, all the while monitoring the ape.

Caesar with James. :)

Without any more spoilers, one thing led to another, and Caesar somehow have grown up to be much more intelligent than normal apes and began fighting back against humans. This story, though it's nothing extraordinary, but to me, it was inspiring and truly a good movie/story since a very long time. I haven't felt this excited or touched by a movie since the last few years. This movie spoke to me not only in terms of the fact that it's near to a subject I studied (neuroscience) but that it also questions a lot of humanity and our constant need to wanting to know everything about this world. This movie alone highlighted several things to me, one, humans' desire to learn more about this world by experimenting and researching will one day backfires on us when we go too far, two, animals aren't just "animals" they have a life of their own too, they have emotions as well, and three, humans' greed for money will be our own demise one day and four, our love for our family can never be measured.

Caesar with John Lithgow.

These points aren't new in the movie business, but I think this movie have highlighted them very well. The film makers and scriptwriters have made the movie in such a way that you feel sympathetic towards the animals at one point and towards the humans in another point, but the main thing I think is that it makes the audience question themselves at the end of the movie whether what we are doing all the while is worth the consequences or not. And to be more compassionate towards all living beings.

The amazing Andy Serkis as Caesar.

On another note, the CGI in this film, was undoubtedly one of the best ones recently. They have managed to create the animals to be so surreal that it's scary when the zoomed up shots of the apes were shown on the big screen, the texture of the skin and hair of the ape.

Hence, this movie to me was truly inspiring and made me pondered and questioned the whole time I was in the cinema watching it. It was also amazing to watch James Franco in another one of his smart choices of picking movies. This one was again another smart option. Furthermore, to see John Lithgow on the screen after such a long time, was definitely a bonus for me. I loved this man on 3rd Rock from the Sun, he's truly a genius and a fine actor. And last but not least, Andy Serkis... a true master of the CGI realm since his rise to fame from Lord of the Rings trilogy, this man had been working in various films, either in a green suit or not, he truly is magnificent.

The legendary John Lithgow.

I'm glad to have rushed to go catch this film. Because this film brought back my passion for film which seemed to have been hiding within myself. And for this, I thank the film makers, the cast and crew of this film! :)

Ooo.. and Tom Felton is in the movie too! :P

Till next time...

Keep the Faith.
